Orthomolecular medicine, which uses nutrients in large doses to treat disease, is regarded as highly controversial by the medical establishment. Someday, medicine without vitamin C therapy will be compared to childbirth without sanitation or surgery without anesthetic. If you want to be healthy, you should take enough vitamin C. The story of vitamin C is an exciting journey into the workings of science and medicine, the intrigues of political economic influences, and the evolutionary history of humankind. After reading this book, you will know why .  and how much.. This rejection of the orthomolecular approach has little basis in science and reflects a bias at the heart of the status quo. This book tells the story of how the controversy about vitamin C has grown and continues while the increasing evidence demonstrates the value of the orthomolecular approach. "Restoring health and healing with vitamin C" according to Robert Sealey. Vitamin C: The Real StoryThe Remarkable and Controversial Story of Vitamin Cby Steve Hickey, PhD and Andrew Saul, PhD,2008, Basic Health Publications Inc., CA, 192 pages []A curious title. What could be remarkable or controversial about vitamin C? Thousands of children take Flintstone multis every day; don't they get enough vitamin C? Many adults take some C when they have a cold. Even without supplements, don't most people get enough vitamins and minerals in their fruits and veggies? Authors Hickey and Saul think we need to know the truth about vitamin C. Their fascinating book pre. Great book for natural medicine advocates. June Heimsoth Loved the book. Very credible, it answers questions concerns, and unbelievers of this totally amazing nutrient. The authors wryly state that gorillas our closest relatives get 4000 milligrams of vitamin C in their diet while the RDA for people is less than 100 milligrams. He says "somebody's wrong and I don't think it's the gorillas". Long story short if it's not working it's because the amounts are too small.. Great Vitamin C Thesis A very informative guide to Vitamin C. The reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because I felt the authors did not spend enough time on the healing mechanisms of C. Instead, this is more of a history of the vitamin, along with a few cases in which it can treat "X, Y, Z". Nothing wrong with that - but I'd recommend getting Saul's "Doctor Yourself" if you're looking for a true guide to using vitamin C as an orthomolecular medicine. All in all, a good read!
