DESCRIPTION:
Good reference book, but it's time for next edition! GadgetGuru26 This book is one of the very good reference books for UMTS as a starter. The history, UTRAN, Core network has been described very well. But the books seems to be more focussed on R99 architecture, It's almost time to have an updated edition giving more stress on the Distributed switch architecture, Soft switch, IP Multimedia subsystem etc. There needs to be detailed chapter on HSDPA.. The best book on UMTS networks. This books is currently the best book on UMTS network. It coversboth UTRAN and core network layout very well. The other parts ontheory, WCDMA, services, terminals and protocols are also verygood. The book has been very well organised. There are very manyfigures in the book which are clear and helpful to understand. If you need only one book on UMTS, this is the one. There aremany books in the market on 3G and UMTS but this one is the oneexplaining how it works in practical rather than just theoryonly. It is European centric also. Warmly recommended.. UMTS NETWORKS - Architecture, Mobility and Service This book is up to my expectations. Most of the books on 3G overemphasize the radio access part and underemphasize the other aspects like UMTS Terminal, Core Networks, Interfacing with External Networks, Services, Appilcations etc., in their coverage. This book deals with all these aspects on equal priority basis. The depth of the details is neither at high level nor at low level. It is just at right level and for people who are eager to enhance their knowledge on 3G, I recommend this book as worth having. The only missing part I felt in this book is OSS system

This will potentially offer significant revenue opportunities and bring values to mobile operators and may also enable service enhancement with existing access technologies." (Dr. "The authors provided an insightful discussion into a wealth of service possibilities that could be delivered by UMTS
Containing revised, updated and brand new material, it provides a comprehensive view on the UMTS network architecture and its latest developments. Building on the success of the first edition, UMTS Networks second edition allows readers to continue their journey through UMTS up to the latest 3GPP standardization phase, Release 5. This second edition will also benefit students and researchers in the field of mobile networking.. Accompanied by numerous illustrations, the practical approach of the book benefits from the authors’ pioneering research and training in this field. Provides a broad yet detailed overview of the latest worldwide developments in UMTS technology.Includes brand new sections on the IP Multimedia Subsystem and High Speed Downlink Packet Access according to 3GPP Release 5 specifications.Contains heavily revised sections on the evolution from GSM to UMTS Multi-access, the UMTS Radio Access Network, the UMTS Core Network and services.Includes updated versions on
