Lynn D said A Smorgasborg of African American literature. I read this for an Advanced Survey of African American Literature course and absolutely loved it. It takes you through the entire history of African American Literature, beginning with the vernacular, or works such as folktales, blues, ballads and sermons that were intended for oral communication, and continuing into the modern era with authors like Alice Walker and Nikki Giovanni. Each section begins with an introduction by the editor that provides context and background for the particular chapter of the anthology. Although it is an anthology. but the stories I read from this text were wonderful. Victoria Bermudez Probably just because I had a phenomenal instructor for this class and I'm a lit lover, but the stories I read from this text were wonderful.. educational with a nice mixture of the well-known and the obscure If I am not mistaken, I was supposed to receive both volumes of these books, but I only received Volume B and not Volume A. I need both for a class, and since I am renting the books (or rather, book, I guess), I am worried that it will seem as though I only returned one volume and not the other.As for the actual contents of Volume Bit's everything you can expect from a Norton Anthology: educational with a nice mixture of the well-known and the obscure. I have not had a chance to read it more thoroughly, but I quick skim through the pages left
