As anyone familiar with Green's writing would expect, this is serious academic book - not really for the general reader, although there is much for the general reader to enjoy. Green is an expert on the history of the Conservative Party, so unsurprisingly, he is at his best when placing Thatcher in the broad sweep of Conservative thinking and shows how many of her ideas were simply old wine in new skins - ideas that had been around for a while, which Thatcher picked up on.
