DESCRIPTION:

One of my favorite books in highschool James M. Folks I first found this book in the local library. Like most of the books I tended to read, it didn't look particularly popular. It was short, though, and I wanted to learn about particle physics. At the time, I lacked the background to even approach a book on quantum field theory. This short, unassuming little book not only introduced me to the idea of symmetry in physics, and the CPT theorem in non-mathema. Rathi Dasgupta said Best introduction to symmetry and related concepts. This book has introduced Symmetries & Asymmetries in the simplest way possible starting with mirror symmetry. The author has introduced concepts of CPT violation and Heavy ion collision in the easiest and conceivable way possible. A similar authentic book is written by David Coleman. If I compare this book with Coleman's book, Coleman's book is more technical and mathematical yet this book written by Pr

Nobel Laureate T.D. Lee ushers the reader into the realm of particles and accelerators, the mystery of missing symmetries and unseen quarks, the interdependency of the micro and macro world. Using everyday examples for the benefit of the general reader without special mathematical training, he encompasses in this brief book almost the whole foundation of modern particle physics, which began with the violation of symmetry in mirror reflection, in time reversal, and in the interchange between particle and antiparticle.Professor Lee writes with grace and humor about such deep concepts as the CPT theorem, spontaneous symmetry breaking, vacuum as a physical medium, and relativistic heavy ion collisions.
