(Library Journal (Starred Review))"River Road is a gripping read with emotion-charged twists and turns that you won't see coming. Carol Goodman creates a heroine who'll linger with you long after you close the book." —Tess Gerritsen, author of Playing with Fire"Goodman expertly melds the psychological thriller and academic mystery into a compelling story of revenge and grief. When Nan begins finding disturbing tokens that recall the death of Nan’s own daughter, Nan suspects that the two accidents are connected. As she begins to dig further, she discovers that everyone around her, including Leia, is hiding secrets. From the award-winning author of The Lake of Dead Languages comes a chilling new psychological thriller about a professor accused of killing her favorite student in a hit-and-run accident.Nan Lewis—a creative writing professor at a state university in upstate New York—is driving home from a faculty holiday party after finding out she’s been denied tenure. RIVETING READ Laurel-Rain Snow Nan Lewis had just left a holiday party, upset because of the news that another professor, Cressida Janowicz, had told her: that she had been denied tenure. "Utterly disappointing turn for a favorite author" according to Lisa P. Benwitz. I have loved been a fan of Carol Goodman's books for years, including her YA Blythewood series. Unfortunately, "River Road" was a complete miss for me. I admired the attempt to set the protagonist up as a potentially unreliable narrator, presumably causing readers to wonder if there was so much more to the story than her POV was telling. The problem is, it was crystal-clear from almost the beginning of the book "whodunnit," so the device didn't work. Most of the unwinding of the plot came from Nan following people when s. Great Characters and Very Suspenseful Holly Y Goodman is my favorite author. Hands down, I get lost in her books and find a bizarre happiness in their dark sadness. This book was a bit off for me in the beginningI didn't have the same feelings I did for her previous books. While her other books have sucked me in immediately, this one snuck up on my slowly. It's not my favorite of my favorite's, but it's still a great story. Goodman is so good at writing the story of every single character in her bookseven characters only mentioned two-three times, you get a feel for
