Death Has Questions? The idea of this book is intriguing. The Incarnations (Death, War, Earth, Fate, Time, Evil, and Good), are real, literal entities that ordinary humans can see and interact with, while in the ordinary world magic and science co-exist; you can go to the local store and buy a charm, spell, or a watch, while real, honest-to-god ghosts wander the streets.Zane, our protagonist, is drawn into becoming a major character in this world, as while attempting suicide, he instead manages to kill the current incar. Interesting angle. Not a bad read however I couldn't help but to feel certain things were changed on the fly to make it more digestible. From what it started out as to what it ended up as are two completely different feelsTo me at least. The main impetuous of the story is sort of left flapping in the breeze and not really drawn upon to give it firm direction and resolution. There are some scenes which are very visual and interesting and the writing does have a nice tempo about it. Certain avenues I wished it would hav. Great Start To a Wonderful Series On A Pale Horse is a great start to a wonderful exploration of "possibilities." Easily one of the "strongest", if not the strongest book in the series. Although I'm not usually drawn to fantasy, some friends felt I would appreciate this series because of the concept of the "offices of immortality." They were right!!
