Disturbingly Beautiful Frozen Pankake I wish Madelyne Camrud’s had not chosen the Oddly Beautiful for the title of this collection. Because then I would have been able to use it for the title of this review and feel a bit clever. “Oddly Beautiful” is the perfect phrase to describe this collection. Camrud uses disturbing and alluring images to paint a picture of the relationship between her and her husband, Ted, as he descends into the frightening forgetfulness of Alzheimer’s. She parallels tender, sensual, and even erotic, anecdotes of her early married life, with the frustrating, painful events of watching Ted’s mind and body turn on h. "Oddly Beautiful" according to Morgan Laite. Oddly Beautiful is a wonderful compilation of poems that express the deepest forms of love and grief. Camrud brings us into her life, makes us experience her happiness and her anguish through her poetry. Mark Vinz says these poems “are about love and the many forms it takes.” These poems portray Camrud’s life in a way that I have never experienced before.
