DESCRIPTION:
Readers might think they know the story of Hans Christian Andersen's "The Princess and the Pea," but some characters in the story wold take issue with them. This clever version of a favorite fairy tale is perfect for learning all about character and point-of-view. It is in line with the Common Core State Standards for Language Arts.. In this retelling one gets to have a say, even the pea, the crucial member of the cast
During the storm a girl appears at the door of the castle, wet and bedraggled. The queen plucks the pea from the garden, not explaining her plan to anyone. The watercolor illustrations are perfect for the story, with detailed costumes, faces, and expressions. He'd rather have someone who will go hunting with him. Then Queen Mildred chimes in about her efforts to get her son to marry. The last scene shows the pea in a display case, atop a purple pillow. A fun, albeit lengthy, retelling.-Ieva Bate
His books for children include King Midas: A Golden Tale, illustrated by Omar Rayyan, which Kirkus Reviews called a "polished, polgnant retelling." He lives in Glenvale, Wisconsin.. John Warren Stewig is the Founder of the Center for Children's Literature at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, where he is an emeritus professor in the School of Education
Point of View Excellent point of view book for teachers. I teach fourth grade and my students really enjoyed it and were able to grasp the concept.
