"Land of beauty, history, danger--facing change" according to retro. Biggers not only knows his subject but has immersed himself in it, living among a people that have seen dozens of incursions from the famous (Villa, Pershing, to name two) and infamous (drug smugglers and tourists these days) but until now not surrendering their ancient way of life to the ch. A Wise and Expert Story I've just finished reading this book and am delighted with it. On the one hand it is scholarly, a meaningful survey of many sources of knowledge regarding the history of the region, all with citations, yet on the other hand, it is an engaging, delightful personal narrative. Sincerity is neve. Nice insights into the Tarahumara people but the content is Nice insights into the Tarahumara people but the content is a bit broader than expected. Worth the read and price but is you want 100% info on Northern Mexico and/or the indigenous people this is not the book for you.
