DESCRIPTION:
Here is the most influential and important book ever written on the subject!. In Heaven and Hell, Swedenborg gives the reader a detailed description of the afterlife. Are there any Jews, Muslims and people of pre-Christian times such as pagan Romans and Greeks in heaven? He posits that the love of self or of the world drives one towards hell, and love of God and fellow men towards heaven. He deals with God, heaven, hell, angels, spirits, and devils; and he addresses the issues of who is in heaven and hell
Copyright 2001 Reed Business Information, Inc. Swedenborg's afterworld is a kind of reflection and amplification of our own, and his vision of moving and active collective of heavens, occupied by the very real blessed dead, has been a tremendous influence on Goethe, Emerson, and Jorge Luis Borges, among many others. From Library Journal The Swedenborg Foundation has done handsomely by its eponymous visionary with this first volume in a new 25 part set of translations for his of his work. Highly recommended. . Dole's translation has the clarity and simplicity of Swedenborg's Latin, and the notes and supplementary material are wonderfully balanced a
Daniel Attila said The answers you have been looking for. I spent years researching the five major religions and have read all of their main sacred texts, yet I never seemed to find clear answers to my questions or an explanation to the frustrating contradictions between common religious beliefs. Heaven and Hell put all that frustration to rest. This magnificent work presents a coherent theological model in which all major religions find a place and answers all questions people typically have . What to make of this? I approached this book expecting a rambling schizoid work by someone who was mentlaly unbalanced. Instead, Swedenborg is a clear and articulate writer, his theology is perfectly sensible and well thought out, there is an internal logic to what he writes that extends throughout his writings. I don't know what to make of his claim that he was appointed to be a prophet to mankind and to explain this to us all. It would be easy to dismiss i
