This new, expanded edition features enhanced content related to development of specific age groups, with a unique focus on the ongoing development of the healthy older adult. The 2nd edition of this expert text emphasizes normal development and function, examining how function is attained and how it can be optimized across the life span. Specifically, the chapters dealing with the skeletal system, the cardiovascular and pulmonary system, and the nervous system have been extensively updated and more comprehensively illustrated.. A solid grounding in normal development, including the cellular and systems changes that begin in the embryo and continue throughout life, enables readers to recognize, understand, and appropriately treat abnormal motor function. Its logical organization and presentation equips readers with the background and tools needed to understand the components of functional movement

Excellent frame for understanding movement with a lifespan perspective IHM Illinois Provides good conceptual basis of the ICF and motor control theories to frame discussion and learning about movement informed by an understanding of the variances that occur across the lifespan. Excellent review of body systems that have the most significant implications for movement and for physical therapists in particular. Great resource for professional education programs as well as for clinicians (especially those acting as clinical instructors/supervisors).. Amazon Customer said Worst Kindle book I've ever bought. DO NOT buy the Kindle version of this book! Worst Kindle book I've ever bought. Hard to navigate because the printed book page numbers don't exist in the Kindle version. You get "location" numbers which do not easily correspond with known page numbers in the contents. Doesn't have a glossary of terms. Images are unattractive.. It's OK. Just got through Ch. It's OK. Kirk G. Painter Just got through Ch. 4. A lot of theory and systems reviewed that may or may no longer be used in the real world. These are mentioned for a historical perspective, but to me takes too much time to read about something no longer used or is outdated.. .
