Steve Flynn said Tedious!. Better had it been a short story or the first part of "Children of Dune". I first read the chronicles decades ago and forgotten that I did not like this book even though I loved Dune so much I went on to read the 'House' trilogy by his son which was fantastic and just read it (them) a second time. I seriously could not wait to get to the end knowing I had to finish it for the background to "Children of Dune". Having read the chronicles so long ago it was almost like reading them for the first time, 'almost'.. Dune Massiah and the Dune Saga aboldie2-big reader It didn't unfold as I would have liked, but never the less I enjoyed this saga. I have read DUNE andTHE CHILDREN OF DUNE, and I will soon be going on to the rest of the saga. At least the Frank Herbert works. I recommend reading theses books and try to not give up on the early parts of the gist book. One thing I found hard to get used to are the "chapter headings". I wonder if this was a deliberate device of Mr Herbert?. "I enjoyed the read and look forward to book three in" according to Alvin C. Johnson, Jr.. Interesting and sophisticated book. While under the category of science fiction, the philosophy and theology of this book invites deep reflection and conversation. In particular the nature and role of prophecy and suffering invite a much deeper appreciation for the characters than one might ordinarily find in science fiction literature. I enjoyed the read and look forward to book three in the series.
