It shines a light on the pro-Union faction of each state and how it worked to oppose the Confederacy. This is the first work I’ve come across where each of the Southern States resistance is examined in a single volume. You will read about pro-Union societies, and spy rings. Both men and women who aided the north are examined.A couple areas of concern were the authors reference to Fort Pillow and ca. Hell, Texas was so crazy during the Civil War it actually went and invaded New Mexico just for grins. Come on Calvin, that's a big missing piece from your probably very interesting book.. This book sheds new light on the internal politics of the Confederate States in way that goes counter to the "Lost Cause" mythology promulgated after the war. It has information not available elsewhere. The writing is utiitarian but not elegant.
