The rating I provided is based on the fact that this book is not suitable for beginners and/or for those who have a basic workshop. I can only assume that the people who give this book glowing reviews are those who have an extremely well equipped workshop with a band saw capable of re sawing boards, an inflatable round sander, a hook-and-loop sander, a small drum sander, a vertical belt sander, a multitude of scroll saw blades, and various other tools. Author provides plans for main box and sub assemblies (eg ribbons, tails, etc), clear instructions and lots of pictures illustrating how to build the boxes. I have met the author at Woodworking shows. She builds every project and makes sure that the project can be built using her instructions. I.e. no hidden gotchas where an author forgets to tell you how to do some necessary step and you wind up fru. "Fantastic book!" according to Veronica. Ms.Rothman really delivers in this book. The box plans are very well explained, the boxes are very creative, and you can also get lots of ideas for making your own boxes. Although there were some limitations for me, due to a lack of the required tools and materials, I was still able to make boxes by improvising.
