"Boehm provides just the right amount of context, allowing the pages to speak, or sing, for themselves." — Reference & Research Book News

M. Dalbec said Choirs of Angels. I absolutely adore this book. All those illuminated partitions grouped in the same work, is ice cream to the soul. Yes yes yes, I enjoy it as much everytime I go through it. It is not a thick book but I rather have less of this quality than more of the lesser works. The print quality is also great.. Gorgeous printing Lovely large reference photos to study! Great for studying the painting style and techniques of the time especially when you can't view them first hand. Nice collection.. "Lovely book filled with beautiful full color pages" according to Mark Warda. Lovely book filled with beautiful full color pages. I had hoped for more instruction on the how to replicate the works (illumination and letters) but it's mostly an art and history book. Still, it's immensely valuable to see the works themselves.

The choir books they illuminate are a rich source of information about the development of chant, whose unexpected transcendent tonalities have abiding appeal today. They also serve as primary sources for the study of the lives of religious communities and of the philosophy and faith that infused medieval Europe, offering a glimpse of Italy at the dawn of the Renaissance.. Representing the work of Gothic and Renaissance masters both celebrated and anonymous, these precious paintings in miniature---with their compelling narrative, brilliant color, and shining gold---bear witness to exceptional aesthetic accomplishment
