DESCRIPTION:
One Star Text, drawings, and photos very thin on important detail. A fluff piece.. good little book Richard A. Burns "Baldwin Mallet Articulated Locomotives," this was a good little book. It is only forty-three pages. But, its scope is only the the early 1900's locomotives. It has good cutaway drawings showing the processes of compound operations. It does not replace any of the books I already own, but I do life the little drawings.. Small book for big locomotives James The book was certainly not what I expected. It is a very small book (6x8")43 pages. It does have good line drawings of the locomotives, fair quality b/w photos. I am not overly impressed with it & would not have purchased it if I had known more about it.
This catalog shows the company's full line of Mallet Articulated locomotives. Capable of developing twice as much tractive force as a conventional engine, and best suited for operation at moderate speeds, these locomotives were ideal for freight and mountain service.. Founded in the early 1830's by Philadelphia jeweler Matthais Baldwin, the Baldwin Locomotive Works built an enormous number of steam locomotives before ceasing production in 1949
