DESCRIPTION:
This book emphasizes a general introduction to probability theory and provides a detailed discussion of specific designs and analyses that are typically encountered in ecology and environmental science. The second edition features two new chapters on estimating ecological metrics.
Attractive features but too many errors Nick Cox I wanted to like this book. It is broad-ranging, coveringexperimental design, data management and Bayesian ideas, as wellas more standard statistical techniques. It goes as far asmultivariate methods. It is widely and deeply reflective, withhistorical and philosophical discussions and asides. It is in manyways attractively presented, on pleasant smooth paper with someelegant line drawings. As such it should appeal to graduatestudents and professionals in ecology, and also in relatedenvironmental sciences. But my more positive inclinations are not enough to allow a strongcommendation. Even in its. Clear and thorough Claire Burgett This book starts with the basics, but introduces ideas about data management. The authors often get into the mathematical details about the statistical methods. Yet, the style of writing makes it a relatively easy read. If you are looking for details on a special case of a particular method or information about using statistical programs this isn't the right book. I highly recommend it, especially for a new ecologist.. Amazon Customer said Low quality binding. This is not a review of the content, which is great, but rather a review of the quality of the book. The pages are already falling out of the binding even though the book has only been opened twice. This is unacceptable. I may have just gotten an oddball, but I expected higher quality from a book that was purchased unused.
